Job Description

Diesel Mechanic / Truck Technician Department: Service Reports To: Service Manager Overview Our Technician is responsible for performing high-quality maintenance and repairs on medium and heavy-duty vehicles. This role ensures safety, customer satisfaction, and efficient operations by following established repair procedures and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics to vehicles and equipment.
  • Read job orders, observe and listen to vehicles in operation to determine malfunction, and plan work procedures.
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks - making adjustments as needed.
  • Tag all warranty parts and returns to the warranty clerk.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Operate forklifts as needed for moving parts and equipment within the shop.
  • Attend training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to increase overall customer satisfaction.
  • Mentor coworkers and apprentices through hands-on coaching, knowledge sharing, and guidance to encourage skill growth and team success.
  • Take ownership of challenges and opportunities by addressing issues promptly, finding practical solutions, and continually seeking process improvements.
General Knowledge and Skills You Will Need
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair practices, applying this understanding to daily tasks.
  • Apply knowledge of International’s repair and maintenance procedures, including troubleshooting techniques, technical vehicle systems, tools, and documentation.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, leadership, and customers to promote understanding, build trust, and encourage open dialogue.
  • Effectively plan and organize daily tasks by setting clear priorities and using available resources to meet goals that support overall team and organizational success.
  • Uphold and promote a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment by following and reinforcing safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Utilize software systems and digital tools effectively to perform job-related tasks, streamline workflows, and support accurate, efficient service delivery.
Desired Education and Experience
  • Medium or heavy-duty technician, equivalent experience or qualification
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Applicable certifications related to industry, products, and/or safety
  • Valid driver's license is required; currently maintains or can obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
