Job Description – Production Manager

Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire production floor; ensuring that all operations run efficiently, safely, and on schedule. This position requires full ownership of the production area, including people, processes, equipment, and workflow coordination across departments. The Production Manager must demonstrate strong leadership and technical capabilities while anticipating and resolving operational challenges such as equipment downtime, increased order volume, or tight delivery timelines. This role plays a critical part in maintaining Decimal Engineering’s standards of quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of all production departments including Machining, Laser, Punching, Forming, EDM, Tool & Die, Stamping, Manual Operations, Assembly, and Machine Maintenance.
• Take ownership of the entire production area; ensuring alignment between departments, optimal use of resources, and on-time delivery of customer commitments.
• Lead daily production meetings, prioritize tasks, and make real-time adjustments to meet evolving business needs or unexpected issues.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Maintenance to ensure workflow continuity and timely response to production challenges.
• Anticipate production constraints and develop proactive solutions - whether reallocating manpower, outsourcing processes, or adjusting schedules to meet deadlines.
• Manage production schedules, ensuring job times, standards, and quality goals are consistently achieved.
• Maintain accurate visibility of materials and work-in-process inventory while minimizing waste and downtime.
• Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and teamwork among production staff and supervisors.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized workspace that meets all OSHA and company safety standards.
• Maximize use of ERP/MRP systems (Made2Manage, Shop Floor Manager, Unipoint, etc.) for planning, tracking, and continuous improvement of efficiency and cost.
• Monitor department KPIs and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, quality, and on-time delivery.
• Lead cross-department initiatives to streamline operations, reduce bottlenecks, and increase throughput.
• Drive the adoption of new technologies and equipment to enhance capability and competitiveness.
• Develop, train, and mentor team leads and operators; ensure consistent skill development and succession planning.
• Conduct and review performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and coaching for improvement.
• Collaborate closely with senior leadership to align production objectives with company strategy.
• Support and maintain compliance with AS9100, ISO, and ITAR standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing multiple production departments.
• Proven ability to lead diverse teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results under pressure.
• Solid understanding of CNC machining, fabrication, assembly, and general manufacturing processes.
• Experience in ERP/MRP systems (Made2Manage preferred).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; capable of making fast, informed decisions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Strong business acumen and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Must demonstrate initiative, accountability, and a long-term mindset.
